Distance from the South Downs Way: Around four miles

Although approximately four miles from the path, we think it’s well worth allowing some extra time for a visit. As Arundel is close to the halfway point along the South Downs Way and there’s so much to see and do, it’s a great choice for a rest day if you are walking the whole of the Way.

Arundel is a lovely town full of character and history, dominated by the imposing Arundel Castle and situated on the river Arun just a few miles inland from Littlehampton on the south coast. It has over a thousand years of history to explore, including the stunning castle, the gothic cathedral and Arundel museum. The old and the new blend seamlessly, with a great choice of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and places to stay.
