Distance from the South Downs Way: Four miles
Midhurst is a historic market town situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park and makes an excellent base for exploring the local area. History is all around and nowhere more so than Cowdray House. At one time, this was a magnificent Tudor mansion and the ruins have recently been sensitively restored. The Cowdray Estate is also home to the Cowdray Park Polo Club, recognised as the home of British Polo.
Midhurst is a very pleasant town to stroll around, with its medieval history evident in the narrow lanes lined by ancient timber buildings. The River Rother offers some very pleasant riverside walks and there are lots of independent shops to browse around. There’s also a great choice of places to stay, eat and drink.
Getting Here & Home Again
By Train & Bus
The nearest railway stations are Haslemere (7 miles) and Petersfield (9 miles). Both have direct connections to London Waterloo and Portsmouth. Midhurst is very well connected by bus, with services to Guildford, Petersfield, Worthing, Chichester, Pulborough and Portsmouth.
By Car
Midhurst is very east to reach by car, with the A272 passing through the town connecting it to the east and west, and the A286 heading south to Chichester and north towards Guildford. There are several very reasonable pay and display car parks in the town centre.

There are lots of pubs, restaurants, independent shops, banks, a couple of supermarkets, a post office and tourist information centre.
