Bignor

The pretty village of Bignor is located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, around 7 miles to the south of Petworth. It is best known for being home to Bignor Roman Villa, famous for its stunning floor mosaics. The villa was discovered by a farmer ploughing his field in 1811 and is believed to date from the 3rd Century AD. It was strategically located close to the ancient Roman road Stane Street, which connected London to Chichester. The adjoining village of Sutton has an excellent pub with rooms if you plan to spend some time in the area.
Getting Here & Home Again
By Train & Bus
The closest railway station is at Amberley, 5 miles away. From there, direct services operate to London Victoria (1 hour 20 mins) and to Arundel (5 minutes) and the south coast beyond. There are limited bus services to Chichester and Petworth.
By Car
Bignor is located between the A285 and A29 and Bignor Villa is clearly signposted from both. There is a free car park at Bignor Hill around a mile or so from the village and very limited on street parking in the villages of Bignor and Sutton.
Amenities
There is a pub in Sutton, while the nearest shops, banks and other amenities are in Petworth seven miles away.
